Boundary Fire
Current News
FAIRBANKS, AK – Temperatures in the 80’s
and low relative humidity worked to the advantage of rehab groups
working the southern perimeter of the Boundary Fire yesterday.
The dozers and excavators made good progress and completed about
six miles of rehab. Tomorrow, rehab should be complete in the
area north of Bear Creek. Approximately 37 miles of line has been
rehabbed.
On the southeastern perimeter, in a limited suppression area,
a few hot spots flared up again today. Two smokes were also spotted
along the Steese Highway. Only one near Long Creek, however, required
any attention from the engines patrolling the Steese Highway.
The other was monitored by air but no suppression action was needed.
The weather forecast for the next 3 to 5 days is similar to the
last few days. Clear skies, temperatures in the 70’s and
80’s and humiditys in the 20 to 30 percent range will increase
the possibility of fire activity.
Incident Commander Avi Shalom, took over the fire this morning
at 8 am. Two new crews are expected on the fire today to help
finish the remaining rehab work.
