Fire Brief:  08/6/04 11:00 pm

Temperatures in the 80’s and low relative humidity worked to the advantage of rehab groups working the southern perimeter of the Boundary Fire yesterday. The dozers and excavators made good progress and completed about six miles of rehab. Tomorrow, rehab should be complete in the area north of Bear Creek. Approximately 37 miles of line has been rehabbed.

On the southeastern perimeter, in a limited suppression area, a few hot spots flared up again today. Two smokes were also spotted along the Steese Highway. Only one near Long Creek, however, required any attention from the engines patrolling the Steese Highway. The other was monitored by air but no suppression action was needed.

Fire Brief:  08/5/04 10:00 am

Another day of sunshine and dry weather allowed the dozers and excavators working on the Boundary Fire to complete four more miles of rehabilitation. Some sections of the fire area are being patrolled by air while others remain in an engine patrol status.

Today's weather forecast is similar to that of yesterday. Clear skies and warm temperatures increase the possibility of smoke, especially in the fire interior, to become visible.

Fire Brief: 08/4/04 12:00 pm

Dry weather on the Boundary fire has facilitated good, safe progress on rehabilitation and mop-up work Tuesday. Approximately 11 miles of additional of dozer line was rehabilitated. Dozers worked carefully in the Monkey Rock area to keep from damaging creeks that supply water to the area. The fire was also flown for re-mapping, however, there were no changes in the fire perimeter.

Fire officials have spent the last two days flying the fire in a special project to confirm the location of lost or damaged structures. It was found that 1 commercial property along with 29 recreational cabins and outbuildings have been destroyed. In previous reports, the number of structures damaged or destroyed was listed as 15. With the recent weather, officials were able to dedicate time and aircraft to fly the interior of the fire to get a more accurate count.
