During periods of high fire danger and/or activity, the Alaska Division of Forestry supplements its staffing levels through the Emergency Firefighter employment program. This program provides temporary employment and experience to individuals willing to be available "on-call" while the need exists for additional personnel. The Division of Forestry cannot guarantee employment, or any duration of employment, within this program.
If you are interested in employment as an emergency firefighter (EFF), contact the nearest Alaska Division of Forestry (DOF) Area / Dispatch office listed below:
The Division of Forestry conducts training each Spring and does not make any guarantee of employment or duration. Emergency firefighters must be at least 18 years of age, have successfully completed initial and recurrent firefighter training, as well as an annual physical fitness test, prior to employment.
In addition to firefighters, the Division of Forestry hires temporary non-firefighter positions to support suppression activities when DOF is faced with a high wildland fire workload. These positions include, but are not limited to:
- warehouse workers
If you are interested in this type of work, contact the Alaska State Employment Service (Job Service) Office in your community. Each DOF office works closely with the State Employment Service if and when they have casual labor needs.
You may also fill out an Emergency Firefighter (EFF) Application to be on file at your nearest DOF office for use in extreme emergency situations.
Emergency Firefighter (EFF) Application
