Alaska Wildland Fire Information

Introduction

Wildland Fire management in Alaska is an interagency effort. There are three agencies responsible for wildland fires in Alaska:
1) Bureau of Land Management, Alaska Fire Service (AFS)
2) State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry (DOF) and
3) US Forest Service (USFS).

The Alaska Interagency Coordination Center (AICC) serves as the focal point for initial attack resource coordination, logistics support, and predictive services for all state and federal agencies involved in wildland fire management and suppression in Alaska. In addition, AICC is the focal point for coordinating and providing support for all-hazard emergency response activities for federal landholding agencies in Alaska and for providing support to Alaska BLM for non-emergency resource activities.

The AFS and DOF offices report daily to AICC. The USFS reports fires when the information is received from the field offices on the Chugach and Tongass National Forests. This situation report is available on the AICC Web site by 8:30 am and depicts the fire activity from the previous day.
