The Federal Excess Personal Property (FEPP) Program provides equipment and supplies for wildland fire fighting in Alaska. The Division of Forestry & Fire Protection has acquired $5.5 million in federal excess equipment and supplies since it began participating in the program in 1971. The division also assigns FEPP equipment to cooperating volunteer and structural fire departments. This program provides needed equipment to the division and its cooperators as budgets decline and costs rise.
In 2000, DOF acquired 102 items worth approximately $326,160. Significant among these items are:
- one 4x4 crew cab pickup truck
- two 4x4 one-ton diesel pickup trucks
- one stairway vehicle for loading and unloading aircraft
- one electrical forklift
- one micro-mass flow meter used to measure fire retardant mix
- three 10-kilowatt diesel generator sets
- two 5-kilowatt diesel generator sets
- one pressure cleaner/washer
In 1999, DOF acquired 1,875 items worth approximately $168,590, including the following:
- one van
- one blazer
- one forklift
- one trailer-mounted high-pressure washer/cleaner
- one sand blaster
- one tractor (tug)
- one snowplow
- one six-pack pickup truck
- two semi-trailers
- four four-wheel-drive, one-ton diesel pickup trucks
In 1998, DOF acquired 143 items worth approximately $695,305, including the following:
- one four-wheel-drive one-ton diesel pickup
- two four-wheel-drive Chevrolet Blazers
- four trucks
- three cars
- one forklift
- one 5,000-gallon tanker trailer
- one shop air compressor and generator
- two Ford diesel tractors with sweepers
- two brush hogs and one blade attachment for the tractors
