Western Bark Beetle Initiative Grant Program

The Western Bark Beetle Initiative (WBBI) is a cost-share program designed to assist non-federal landowners statewide with bark beetle prevention, suppression, or restoration efforts. Please direct any questions about this funding to wbbi@alaska.gov or (907) 269-8460.

Large acreage non-federal landowners (500+ acres and/or Alaska Native corporations, tribal entities, local or state governments)

This cost-share program is directed towards large acreage non-federal landowners (500 acres or greater owned). If you own less than 500 acres, please see the small acreage landowner cost-share program guidelines or contact us to see which program is the best fit for you.

Proposed projects may occur on a subset of the overall acreage of the property or on individual administrative units.

This funding cannot be used exclusively for the removal of hazard trees.

This cost-share program requires a 1 to 1 non-federal funding match.

The application period for large acreage non-federal landowners is open!

Project proposals are being accepted
August 24 to September 29, 2023

Large acreage non-federal landowners are welcome to submit proposals for cost-share assistance. A complete application package consists of a WBBI application and a project proposal.

Please note, we are not accepting additional small acreage landowner applications at this time. Continue to check our website and social media for updates on this program. We appreciate all the interest this program has generated and hope to secure more funding in the future.
